From my family home in Aichi Prefecture, a love of hojicha was nurtured.
Beginnings
Growing up I would always look forward to visiting my grandparents in a small town near Nagoya. I loved the sounds of the stations, the bustle of the streets and the numerous tastes. Beyond riding the trains and eating the delicious food, one of the great highlights for me was visiting our local tea shop.
Discovery
Tucked away in a corner of the shopping district was an 80 year old tea roaster. It spun rhythmically, toasting local teas from vivid green to rich brown. As the leaves cooked the most comforting gentle aroma smell spilled out onto the street. I loved to watch as the locals were invited in to share a fresh cup of hojicha.
Mission
On a recent trip to Japan with my cousin, the two of us reminised how hard it was to find high quality hojicha in Australia. From there the two of us embarked on a mission: bring the best possible hojicha to Australia.
Curation
After extensive tasting and testing with teas from across Japan, we are now working to share the unique craft, and warmth of authentic Japanese hojicha.
We hope to continue our mission in sharing the very best hojicha with you.
